Attorney Referral REAL LIFE accepts court orders as a condition of bond and also as an alternative to incarceration. If an attorney has a client that they are interested in referring to REAL LIFE, please first talk in depth with them about REAL LIFE. Ensure they know the rules and requirements of the program.
If they are still interested, please email Dr. Sarah Scarbrough or info@reallifeprogram.org with information on the client. We will then coordinate and discuss details from there.
In Jail and Waiting for Court If a person is looking to come to REAL LIFE via bond or as a court order, the attorney must call or email us. Emails are often returned quicker than calls. Email is: info@reallifeprogram.org. We will coordinate all details with the attorney. Unless there are special arrangements made, which are very limited and must be pre-arranged, we do not provide transportation, so that is the responsibility of the incoming person, but they must come to us directly after release.
In Jail and Have Completed Court If an interested person has completed court and is interested in coming to the program when released, please request an application from the counselor, case manager, or equivalent at the jail. After the application is complete, it will be emailed to REAL LIFE for review. We will coordinate acceptance or denial with the counselor. If the counselor is not familiar with REAL LIFE, they can email info@reallifeprogram.org for the application package. We require all coming from jail to come directly to us upon release. We do not provide transportation, so that is the responsibility of the incoming person, but they must come to us directly after release.
In Prison If an interested person is in prison, they can request an application for their re-entry counselor. After the application has been completed the counselor will return it with the appropriate information we review. This includes medical and mental health information, as well as disciplinary history. Review of this information could take 2 weeks. Once review occurs, if approved at that point, we will coordinate a phone interview through the counselor. After the phone interview, we will either accept or deny the person. If accepted, an acceptance letter will be sent to the counselor, who then will submit it as a part of the home plan. If accepted, it is expected the person will remain infraction free. If they do not, their acceptance will likely be taken away and they will no longer be able to come to REAL LIFE. We do accept people on probation upon release and those who are not going to be on probation. If on probation, DOC will transport to our facility. If they will not be on probation, DOC will not transport and the accepted person then is responsible for their own transportation to our facility. However, they are expected to come directly to us upon release.
Other Referral Source Referral through probation, community provider, detox, etc. Please email info@reallifeprogram.org for availability and have the person submit an application. We will review and then request a phone interview if the application looks acceptable.
