Family Sunday: Tommy

Posted: May 4, 2025 | Author: Real Life Staff

Tommy, REAL LIFE graduate and now on the team as our Domestic Violence Prevention Coach, recently reunited with his father for the first time since 2011 — a deeply meaningful moment in his recovery journey. “During active addiction, I had lost all of my relationships with family members and loved ones,” Tommy shares. “One of the most impactful was the relationship with my father. Guilt and shame drove me further into my addiction.”

Now, over two years into recovery, Tommy took the courageous step to reconnect. “The feelings of joy and happiness are unfathomable, and I cannot begin to express this in words,” he says.

Though he felt nervous, Tommy leaned into the healing power of recovery: “FEAR – Face Everything And Recover. Recovery isn’t just about abstaining from use, it’s about reconnecting with life — and family is often at the heart of that reconnection.”

We are so proud of you, Tommy, and inspired by your strength. Here’s to many more joyful days with family!
