Building Futures Through Jobs for Life

When David came to REAL LIFE, he brought strong work experience and real skills, along with a background that made finding employment difficult. He found support through Jobs for Life.

Jobs for Life is more than an employment program offered in our houses. It is relationship-based, grounded in mentorship, community, and trust. Each week, volunteers show up with their experience, encouragement, and even a homemade meal, creating an environment that fosters connection and growth.

Through the program, participants practice mock interviews and develop what the curriculum calls a “30-second commercial.” David used his during a recent interview, sharing his passion for construction and the pride he feels driving through the city, pointing at a building and saying, “I did that.”

The program also covers topics many have never been taught, including budgeting, delaying gratification, and the difference between wants and needs. One lesson that stood out to David was that you may not start where you hope to finish, but with steady steps, your goals are still within reach.

“You can do some amazing things when you put your mind to it. Set one goal after another so that you can get to where you want to be,” David says.
