New Research Reflects the Work of Project SAF

Through Project SAF (Safe, Alive, and Free), our Life Coaches work with people at the highest risk of violence, and they all bring lived experience to that work. They understand what our participants are facing because they have encountered many of those same challenges themselves.

A recent paper on Community Violence Intervention, Next Gen: Building an Elite Workforce, puts it this way: “Trust cannot be outsourced, credibility cannot be manufactured, and cultural fluency cannot be simulated.”

But lived experience is just the beginning. The paper also emphasizes that effective violence intervention requires more than credibility alone. It states, “The workforce must be trained, supported, and developed to meet the complexity of the work.”

Our Life Coaches aren’t just able to say, “I’ve been where you are.” They can also share what they’ve learned on the other side of some of those experiences. Their own growth helps them walk alongside participants who are beginning that journey for themselves.
