REAL LIFE at Petersburg Community Event

While handing out food and flyers, Demetrius and DeShawn also took the opportunity to connect with residents and share more about Project SAF (Safe, Alive, and Free) and the team’s work in Petersburg. They talked about the support Life Coaches provide through anger management and healthy relationships education, positive encouragement, active listening, and sharing their own lived experiences.

Demetrius shared, “We ask them to share some experiences they’ve had involving violence and what they feel would be some effective ways to address it besides what we’re already doing. What always stands out to me is their willingness and desire to be a part of the needed change in our communities!”

These conversations are an important part of Project SAF’s work. By showing up, listening to residents, and building relationships, our team can better understand the needs of the community and work alongside residents to create a safer Petersburg.
