Family Sunday: Melissa

For family reunification Sunday, we’re celebrating Melissa—a mother, staff member, and incredible example of what’s possible after incarceration and recovery.

After completing the REAL LIFE program, Melissa shares: “I gained back custody of my daughter, who was 14 at the time. She’s now 16 and thriving at home with us.”

Melissa has since built a loving, blended family with her husband, who is also in recovery. They’re raising four teenagers and creating a home rooted in love, accountability, and second chances. She’s also proud to have rebuilt a strong relationship with her 21-year-old daughter and son-in-law. “Together we’re raising a beautiful, blended family,” she says.

Now working full-time in the field of addiction and recovery, Melissa gives back the same kind of support that helped her rebuild her life. “REAL LIFE and recovery gave me a freedom I never thought I’d achieve. My life is peaceful today. I feel accomplished. I haven’t reached all of my long-term goals yet—but I’ve hit so many short-term ones along the way.”
