As a new Lifer begins their journey with their Pathway Navigator and in our REAL Houses, they also begin working with our Employment Navigator. The Navigator identifies potential barriers to certain types of employment, reviews their work history, and any skills they may have. Additionally, the Navigator assists the Lifer with obtaining the necessary identification documents. Something as simple as proving one’s identity to secure a copy of a birth certificate and social security card can often pose a significant challenge.
Once the new Lifer is stabilized (usually after about 2 weeks), the Employment Navigator helps them prepare a resume, and begins working with our 100+ employment partners to find an employment opportunity. On average, it takes less than 7 days for a new Lifer to successfully find a job and begin work once they have the necessary identification.
It is our goal for Lifers to not only obtain meaningful employment, but also maintain it. The Employment Navigator continues working with each person after they gain employment and assists in navigating situations that may arise. We equip our Lifers with the necessary skills to grow and become established within a company rather than move from job to job. Resume writing, job preparation classes, interview skills, mock interviews, job applications and mentoring are all skills critical for employment success. This stability and financial security have a lasting impact on the Lifer as well as a generational impact on their family.
