REAL LIFE Virginia Resilience Week: Physical Activity and Sleep
Posted: May 5, 2026 | Author: Real Life Staff
Virginia Resilience Week continues, and today we’re highlighting two more of the 7 Stress Busters, developed by ACEs Aware: Physical Activity and Sleep.
Physical activity can be a powerful way to manage stress. Movement helps improve mood, reduce anxiety, and gives your mind a healthy outlet when life feels hard.
For DeShawn, one of our Project SAF (Safe, Alive, and Free) Life Coaches, staying active is part of how he builds resilience:
“For me, my attendance at meetings, my family, and going to the gym regularly help me with my resilience. I like going to the gym because it’s a healthy habit I’ve had since I’ve been sober, and it feels good to reverse the impact my addiction had on my body.”
Sleep is just as important. Quality rest helps the body recover, improves focus, and makes it easier to handle stress. At REAL LIFE, our recovery houses have structured lights-out times and morning routines that support healthy sleep habits, because rest is part of building lasting change.
We’ll continue sharing how our team and community put the 7 Stress Busters into practice throughout the week.
