Mindfulness and Meditation
When dealing with the everyday stresses that come along with life, meditation and mindfulness are two key tools that can make a tremendous difference. We offer weekly classes to help provide those tools: Mindfulness with Monti and Calm with Kate. Lifer Justin uses grounding and breathing techniques in his everyday life.
At first, uncomfortable with the idea of being alone, meditation did not come easy to Justin. He realized he was afraid of feeling guilt, shame, and afraid of where his thoughts might take him. “Today, I’m not afraid of where my mind takes me. If my mind takes me somewhere I don’t want to be, I respect it, allow myself to feel those emotions, and I move on. It helps me to reflect on my past but not dwell on it. I realize that the things that I did in active addiction is not who I am.”
