Alumni Versus Lifers Softball Game!

Posted: June 11, 2024 | Author: Real Life Staff
With summer heat in full force, we recently hosted our first Alumni versus Lifers softball game at a park in Church Hill. Initially, the Lifer Team was winning 2 to 12, but the Alumni turned things around in the last few innings and won 15 to 12. There was a huge turnout, including 17 REAL LIFE graduates who played for the alumni team. Melissa, a Lifer, says that she loved the game. “It reminded me that I can still have fun and enjoy life without using.” This is an important goal for REAL LIFE; to foster opportunities for prosocial behavior in order to help Lifers build connections and healthy relationships that may have dwindled during active addiction.

It was a great opportunity to build camaraderie between staff, Lifers, and graduates of the program. Kristina, REAL LIFE Education Navigator, was the organizer of the event and said, “the main goal was for the graduates to have some time to see each other again and catch up while having some fun. Community is so important,” Kristina continues,” and that is what we want to create for graduates: a place where they can play, laugh, grow together, share recovery resources and reach out when they need support.”

We love being able to continue to engage Lifers and their families through our Alumni Program. “We call our clients Lifers for a reason,” says Administrative Coordinator Christine. “They are under the REAL LIFE umbrella for life. We are hoping to continue to support our Lifers even after they leave the program and to continue to walk alongside them as they step out into a new, substance-free life.”
