Meet Us Monday: REAL LIFE Alumni, Liz

Posted: August 18, 2025 | Author: Real Life Staff
For this #MeetUsMonday, we are excited to introduce one of our newest REAL LIFE Alumni, Liz! Liz grew up in a small town in West Virginia and started drinking as a teen. After graduating from high school and earning her welder’s certification, she began using substances while on the road when she traveled for her job.

Years later, an arrest led her to REAL LIFE. At first, she just wanted to complete the program for the courts. But after a couple of months, she felt something shift: “It was like, wow—this is a whole different way of life,” Liz remembers. “Let’s deal with these past traumas so I can focus on today and live productively.”

After graduating from the program, Liz returned to her home in West Virginia. She’s made the powerful choice to stay connected virtually with REAL LIFE, finding support in alumni groups and meetings that keep her grounded. Her biggest lesson? “People, places, and things.” By changing her activities and choosing healthy relationships, Liz continues strong in her recovery.

Today, Liz has completely turned her life around. She made a career switch and now works as a Service Advisor for a dealership. She’s also celebrating five years with her supportive partner. Liz stays busy with family, especially her niece, and enjoys making new memories she can fully remember and cherish.
She says the best part of REAL LIFE was realizing she didn’t have to do it alone: “The fellowship really stuck with me. Hearing other people’s stories and knowing I wasn’t alone made all the difference.”

We are so proud of you, Liz, and can’t wait to celebrate you at the upcoming Alumni Dinner! Liz and our other new alumni will receive the coveted REAL LIFE Alumni letterman’s jacket. Until then, keep #thriving!
