Meet Us Monday: Demetrius, Life Coach

Meet Demetrius, one of the newest members of our REAL LIFE staff! As a Project SAF (Safe, Alive, and Free) Life Coach, Demetrius brings energy, compassion, and lived experience to his work each day. He also continues to serve as a Peer House Leader, offering guidance and support to others who are just beginning their recovery journey.

Born in Norfolk, VA, and raised in a Christian home by educators, Demetrius briefly attended Virginia Union University, where he played football. It was during college that he was introduced to drugs, beginning a difficult chapter marked by Substance Use Disorder and incarceration. In the summer of 2022, he made the decision to change his life—a choice that eventually led him to REAL LIFE.

Demetrius is deeply committed to helping others find their own path to recovery. He has rebuilt strong relationships with his family, including his four adult children—one of whom serves in the U.S. Air Force—and finds deep fulfillment in his role at REAL LIFE.

“Being a part of REAL LIFE’s staff is a blessing.” What does he love about his job? “I’ve been given the opportunity to be a steward to others who are suffering from the disease of addiction.” In addition, he is able to work with youth who may be involved in group violence and steer them towards a full and productive life.
