Safe, Alive, and Free: Hopewell’s New Community Space for Youth

Posted: June 5, 2025 | Author: Real Life Staff
Did you know that we have a new community center in Hopewell? It has quickly become a hub of healing, creativity, and connection for REAL LIFE’s Project SAF (Safe, Alive, and Free) team and the youth they serve.

For Maurice, a Project SAF Life Coach, the center is more than just a building — it’s a powerful tool for building trust and providing meaningful opportunities for young people in Hopewell. “Before, we were just standing outside talking,” Maurice said. “Now we’ve got the studio. They love it. It helps me bond with them more.”

Whether they’re making music, playing video games, or just having honest conversations, the center gives these young adults a safe space to be themselves.

“Music is how I let things out,” Maurice shared. “You put your emotions into it and express yourself.” He now encourages his mentees to do the same — using creativity as a healthy outlet.
The Hopewell Community Center isn’t just a hangout — it’s a place for growth, support, and purpose. Participants work through our curriculum and workbook, meet with Life Coaches and our employment navigator, and earn credits they can redeem for pro-social activities like recording time in the studio, gaming, and fitness.

As Mike M., the Violence Prevention Initiative Program Coordinator, put it: “Having a home base like this has made it so much easier to meet our clients’ needs. The game room, studio, and weight room help keep them engaged.”

We are incredibly proud of the REAL LIFE team and the powerful work being done through Project SAF in the Hopewell community. It’s not just about programs — it’s about presence. By showing up, creating safe spaces, and investing time, they are helping to rewrite the story for so many young people in the Hopewell community.
