Continuing our focus on family reunification, we are highlighting Demetrius, who recently reunited with his adult daughter after active addiction and incarceration. After many years of separation and lots of hope and prayer on Demetrius’s part, he has finally been able to rebuild his relationship with his daughter.
At a recent family gathering—a housewarming party hosted by his daughter’s aunt—Demetrius found an opportunity to reconnect with his daughter and other family. After the party, they enjoyed a trip to the Smithsonian African American Institute to honor Black History Month, and they loved being able to get to know each other better.
“My focus is on myself: what do I need to do to keep myself clean, to keep myself straight,” Demetrius says. “And as long as I’m focused on myself, then in turn, I’m focused on my family and everyone else that loves me. They’re getting the clean, the better version of me. Now, the only version of me.”
