Giving Back on Giving Tuesday

This year in celebration of Giving Tuesday, we challenged Lifers to come up with a special project to give back to their community over the past few days, and wow did they deliver! Lifers made and distributed food to the homeless, cleaned up parks, and surprised an elderly neighbor with a Thanksgiving meal.

Tommy, one of our Peer House Leaders, shared this about his experience: “What I love about REAL LIFE is that this program affords us the opportunity to recover. By recover I mean to work on ourselves, to rebuild or reinvent ourselves, if you will. It’s amazing to watch the growth in not only myself but the people around me. If you just stay long enough, you’ll reach a point in your own recovery where it’s not all about you anymore, it’s about giving back. It’s important to give back to the communities we were once detrimental to. We decided to cook a Thanksgiving meal for someone else who otherwise may have not had one. The key ingredient was love!”

“It’s a pay it forward type thing for us.” shared Peer House Leader Melissa. “Some of us were once less fortunate and living on the streets and we know what that would’ve meant to us, for someone to care enough to do something. Even helping one person makes a difference. We wanted to make people feel good.” We are grateful to be a part of the Giving Tuesday movement. Let’s inspire hope and kindness together!
