Meet Us Monday: Christian, Peer House Leader

Born in Louisiana, Christian moved to Virginia in 2005 right after Katrina hit. He had a relatively normal upbringing, went to college, and became an accountant. Christian met and married his wife, and they became pregnant. His alcohol-addiction began after his daughter was born; the stress of the new addition as well as work-stress led to him dealing with problems by escaping into alcohol. Christian then went to prison for a non-alcohol related offense, and as he was preparing to be released, he found REAL LIFE and decided to do the program before returning home to his family. Christian says, “I needed an in-between space to get myself readjusted and focus on me and the issues that I have first before returning to the same situation as before.” Christian graduated from REAL LIFE last year and became a Peer House Leader this year.

In regards to his family, he’s been visiting them every other weekend, and he also tries to have dinner with them every night before returning to the REAL House. For employment, Christian currently does pool installations, but he is being trained to be a foreman. “I’m hoping to continue to grow and to help others grow while I am in the program, to continue to grow at my company, but most importantly, to continue to focus on myself.” Keep working hard, Christian!
