REAL LIFE Highlights Virginia Resilience Week

Posted: May 7, 2026 | Author: Real Life Staff
As Virginia Resilience Week comes to an end, we’re highlighting the final three of the 7 Stress Busters developed by ACEs Aware: Supportive Relationships, Experiencing Nature, and Mental Healthcare.

Supportive relationships are one of the most powerful tools we have for managing stress. Feeling seen, heard, and valued by others helps build connection and makes life’s challenges feel more manageable. Whether it’s a friend, family member, sponsor, coworker, or mentor, positive relationships can help remind us that we do not have to face hard things alone.

Experiencing nature is another important Stress Buster. Time outdoors can help lower stress, improve mood, and create space to slow down and reset. Fresh air, sunlight, and even a short walk can make a meaningful difference.

Mental Healthcare also matters. Paying attention to your thoughts, emotions, and overall mental well-being is an important part of resilience. Practicing the other Stress Busters, including sleep, movement, mindfulness, balanced nutrition, time outside, and connection with supportive people, can all help support mental health.

REAL LIFE Violence Prevention Program Coordinator Maurice shared: “Your thinking is everything, and in every adversity, there is a seed of equal or greater benefit. That way of thinking helps me find the positive in every situation. If you believe you can or believe you can’t, either way, you’re right.”

Small, consistent steps to care for yourself can have a lasting impact. Whether it’s reaching out to someone you trust, stepping outside for fresh air, or shifting your mindset, each choice adds up.
