Meet Us Monday: Wendl, Peer House Leader

For much of her life, Wendl shares that she didn’t struggle with addiction. However, in recent years her drinking gradually became an issue that came to a head when she experienced an alcohol-related seizure and ended up in the hospital. This pushed her to confront her challenges and begin her journey to recovery.

Wendl was initially reluctant to enter the REAL LIFE program. She worried about the financial cost, the need to end her relationship with her boyfriend to focus on her recovery, and the physical challenges she faced after her seizure.

Once in the program, her journey toward embracing recovery wasn’t marked by one big “aha” moment but instead came through gradual realizations over time. A significant boost to her confidence came from her role as manager at Texas Inn. Her boss has been incredibly supportive, adjusting her hours as needed and even attending her recent program graduation—a testament to the strong support system Wendl has built around her.
