Meet Us Monday: Peer House Leader, Kenneth

Born in Charlottesville and raised in Culpeper, Kenneth grew up facing major challenges, including a parent struggling with Substance Use Disorder. As an adult, he turned to substances to numb emotional pain, but he eventually chose a different path. “I started thinking, I don’t want to do this forever. There’s got to be something more out there for me.”

After completing other treatment programs, Kenneth came to REAL LIFE on his own, ready for lasting change. He appreciated the structure right away, even when it was tough: “At first, I thought people were just strict. But then I realized—I needed that. It meant they really cared.”

Now a PHL, Kenneth leads by example and supports new Lifers in their recovery journey: “I love helping the new guys. I’ve been where they are.”

One of the most meaningful parts of his recovery has been reconnecting with his oldest daughter, and now he’s working to build relationships with his grandchildren too.

Kenneth’s goals? Getting his license, a car, an apartment, and continuing to give back.
