Meet Us Monday: Frank, Peer House Leader
Posted: May 20, 2024 | Author: Real Life Staff
Born in Ghana, West Africa, Frank came to the United States when he was 14-years-old. He was mainly raised in Northern Virginia, and majored in Sports Management at VCU. After that, he received his Masters in Sports Leadership and then worked for VCU.
Frank fell into deep depression after the loss of his brother and mother combined with a business setback during Covid. He self-medicated with marijuana and alcohol, which led him to lose his job, become homeless, and serve multiple incarceration stints.
The REAL LIFE program was challenging for him at first, but Frank is thriving now. He is currently a Peer House Leader and is responsible for helping keep the other men in his house on track. “REAL LIFE has given me a very solid foundation, and I don’t know where I would be without this program,” Frank says. “I’m truly grateful for this program and all that it has done for me.”
Frank is proud of his children with his youngest daughter recently graduated from William and Mary, and his oldest daughter is currently working in retail and digital marketing. They continue to be in close contact with each other. He is currently working in a warehouse and finds himself taking on leadership roles there, but he’s hoping to eventually get back into the digital marketing world. He expects to officially graduate from REAL LIFE in July, after over two years in recovery, and then, he says, “the future is wide open.” Yes, it is, Frank! Way to go.
