Richmond’s recent water crisis brought numerous challenges to the community, but it also revealed acts of kindness and resilience. Wendl, a REAL LIFE grad, Peer House Leader, was watching the local news when a segment caught her attention. It featured a mother and her young child struggling to carry water to their car. Inspired to help, Wendl sprang into action with her team at the Richmond restaurant, Texas Inn.

She reached out to her food distributor and secured large quantities of bottled water. “I called my boss and said, ‘We can’t open today, but we can turn Texas Inn into a water distribution center and give out water to the neighborhood,’” Wendl shared.

With the support of her boss and the help of several women from her REAL House, Wendl headed to Texas Inn to set up the operation. Together, they handed out water to families, seniors, and individuals who couldn’t easily access the city’s distribution sites. They even went door-to-door in the neighborhood, offering water to those who might have been overlooked.

One of the most important moments came when a man arrived in search of distilled water for his newborn twins, who had special medical needs. Unable to find the specific water anywhere else, he was overwhelmed with gratitude when Wendl provided it free of charge. “The whole day was worth it, just for that one guy,” Wendl says. “It was really rewarding.”

The experience was a reminder of the impact small acts of service can have in the lives of others. It wasn’t just about distributing water—it was about bringing hope, connection, and support to a community in need. Way to go, Wendl! We are so proud of you.
