We are continuing our family reunification series this Sunday with Katie, a Lifer who has been with us since January and is truly thriving. Katie was separated from her infant daughter when she was arrested and incarcerated, which Katie says began one of the hardest chapters of her life. Initially, Katie wasn’t allowed any contact with her daughter. When Katie was finally allowed to see her daughter on a video call, her daughter didn’t recognize her, which was heartbreaking.
However, Katie didn’t give up on herself or her relationship with her daughter. Katie has faithfully met any requirements that she has been given in order to continue to develop her relationship with her daughter; “now she knows I’m ‘Mommy’ and gets excited for my calls,” Katie says.
Best of all, Katie was able to see her daughter in person for the first time three weeks ago and attended a family performance of the Richmond Symphony with her today!
