Family Sunday: Josh

Josh began using substances at 12, and by his early twenties, he was incarcerated just as his son was about to turn 2. During his three-year sentence, he had no contact with his son, who was cared for by Josh’s older brother.

After his release, Josh joined the REAL LIFE program to learn how to pursue a substance-free life and to reconnect with his son. The first meeting of father and son was quiet, but over time, his son warmed up to him. Now, they see each other almost every week, spending time at the park and by the James River.

Josh has also reconnected with his brothers and is grateful for their support. His hope is to gain partial custody of his son and build a stable, loving relationship. Determined to change his future, Josh is proving that second chances are possible.
