Meet Us Monday: Steven, Peer House Leader

Posted: December 17, 2024 | Author: Real Life Staff
We would like to introduce Steven B., one of our newest Peer House Leaders! He had a challenging childhood with an absent father and a mother who was struggling with addiction. He was raised by his grandmother, who passed away his senior year of high school.

Steven’s struggles with addiction began at 19 after a severe injury at his job as a tow truck driver left him dependent on pain pills. Life continued to present obstacles: his business closed during the pandemic, his marriage fell apart, and he and his new girlfriend tragically lost their baby. This cascade of events led Steven further down a path of addiction, resulting in periods of incarceration. About a year ago, Steven got tired of this life and decided he needed to change. He heard about REAL LIFE from a friend. Starting the REAL LIFE program was overwhelming for him, but after a few weeks, he said that doors started opening up for him.

Today, Steven’s life is on an upward trajectory. He thrives in his role as a Peer House Leader, where he supports others in their recovery journeys. He LOVES his job and deeply appreciates his boss. Beyond professional achievements, Steven is also mending personal relationships. His brother adopted his daughter, and Steven treasures the opportunity to rebuild those connections. “Hearing my dad and my brother tell me how proud they are of me and of what I’m doing . . . I haven’t had that in years,” Steven says. Steven, we are proud of you, too! Keep working hard and watching those doors open! We look forward to watching you shine.
